The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (formerly Ministry of Agriculture), a branch of the Government of India, is the apex body for formulation and administration of the rules and regulations and laws related to agriculture in India. The three broad areas of scope for the Ministry are agriculture, food processing and co-operation. The agriculture ministry is headed by Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar. Abhishek Singh Chauhan, Krishna Raj and Parsottambhai Rupala are the Ministers of State.

Eligibility Conditions:- Deputation (including short-term contract):
Officers under the Central/ State Government / Union territories/Public Sector Undertakings/Recognised Research Institutes/Agricultural Universities/Semi-Government or Statutory or autonomous organisations:- (A) (I) holding analogous post on regular basis in the parent cadre or department; or (II) with two years' service in the grade rendered after appointment thereto on a regular basis in pay band-4, Rs.37,400-67,000/- with grade pay of Rs. 8700/- in the parent cadre or department; and (B) possessing the educational qualifications and experience as under:- (I) Master's Degree in Agriculture with specialisation in Horticulture or M.Sc. (Horticulture) from a recognised University/Institute; (II) Doctorate in Horticulture from a recognised University or Institute; (III) 12 years Post Doctorate experience in the field of horticultural developmentlhorticulture research. Note: For purposes of appointment on deputation basis, the service rendered on a regular basis by an officer prior to 1 st January, 2006 or the date from which the revised pay structure based on the Sixth Central Pay Commission recommendations has been extended shall be deemed to be service rendered in the corresponding grade pay or pay scale extended based on the recommendations of the Commission except where there has been merger of more than one pre-revised scale of pay into one grade with a common grade pay or pay scale and where this benefit will extend only for the post(s) for which that grade pay or pay scale is the normal replacement grade without any upgradation.
