Air Force Recruitment 2016 For Flying, Technical and Ground Duties

Applications are invited from enterprising & adventurous Indian Citizens (men and women) as per
Citizenship Act 1955 for the following courses commencing in July 2017 for grant of Short Service
Commission in Flying Branch and Permanent / Short Service Commission in Technical and
Ground Duty Branches.

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS
2. Flying Branch - 202/17F/SSC/M & W

(a) Age:
20 to 24 years as on 01 Jul 2017 i.e. Born between 02 Jul 1993 to 01 Jul 1997 (Both Dates
inclusive).(Upper age limit for Candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by
DGCA(India) is relaxable upto 26 years i.e. Born between 02 July 1991 to 01 July 1997 (Both dates
inclusive).

(b) Educational Qualifications:
Graduates (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognised University who have attained minimum 60% marks or equivalent have passed Maths and Physics at 10+2 level or BE / B Tech degree (Four year course) or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.

(c) Physical Standards

(i) Height and Weight: 
Minimum height : 162.5 cms with correlated weight, Leg Length : Min - 99 cms.
Max - 120 cms.Thigh Length : Max - 64 cms.Sitting Height : Min - 81.5 cms. Max - 96 cms.
(ii) Vision: (a) Minimum Visual Acuity 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other, correctable to 6/6 only for
hypermetropia.
(b) Manifest Myopia - Nil.
(c) LASIK Surgery for correction of vision is admissible in
Transport and Helicopter streams of Short Service Commission (Flying Branch) if the following conditions are fulfilled at the time of Air Force medical examination:- (i) LASIK Surgery should not have been carried out before the age of 20 years. (ii) The axial length of the eye should not be more than 25.5 mm as measured by IOLmaster.


(iii) At least twelve months should have lapsed post uncomplicate stable LASIK.No history or evidence of any complication.
(iv) The post LASIK corneal thickness as measured by a corneal pachymeter should not be less than 450 microns.
(v) Individuals with high refractive errors (>6D) prior to LASIK are to be excluded. Candidates must not suffer from colour or night blindness.

(iii) All other medical criteria would be evaluated by the Air Force Medical Authorities whose decision on the fitness would be final.


Candidates who have failed the Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) / PABT in an earlier
attempt or a Flight Cadet suspended from flying training at Air Force Academy will not be eligible to apply.

3. Technical Branch - 201/17T/PC/M, 201/17T/SSC/M & W
(a) Age:

20 to 26 years as on 01 July 2017 i.e. Born between 02 July 1991 to 01 July 1997 (both dates inclusive).

(b) Educational Qualifications: (i) Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) {AE (L)}. Candidates with minimum 60% marks each in
Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four year graduation / integrated postgraduation qualification in Engineering / Technology from recognised University or cleared
Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or
Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics and
Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the
following disciplines:-
(a) Communication Engineering (b) Computer Engineering / Technology (c) Computer Engineering & Application (d) Computer Science and Engineering / Technology (e) Electrical and Computer
Engineering (f) Electrical and Electronics Engineering (g) Electrical Engineering (h) Electronics
Engineering / Technology (j) Electronics Science and Engineering (k) Electronics (l) Electronics and
Communication Engineering (m) Electronics and Computer Science (n) Electronics and / or
Telecommunication Engineering (o) Electronics and / or Telecommunication Engineering
(Microwave) (p) Electronics and Computer Engineering (q) Electronics Communication and
Instrumentation Engineering (r) Electronics Instrument & Control (s) Electronics Instrument & Control Engineering (t) Instrumentation & Control Engineering (u) Instrument & Control Engineering (v) Information Technology.

(ii) Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) {AE (M)}. Candidates with minimum 60% marks each in
Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four year graduation / integrated postgraduation qualification in Engineering / Technology from recognised University or cleared
Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or
Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the
following disciplines:-
(a) Aerospace Engineering (b) Aeronautical Engineering (c) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (d)
Mechanical Engineering (e) Mechanical Engineering and Automation (f) Mechanical Engineering
(Production) (g) Mechanical Engineering (Repair and Maintenance) (h) Mechatronics (j) Industrial
Engineering.

(c) Physical Standards (i) Height and Weight: Minimum height:- Men -157.5 Cms, Women:-152 Cms with correlated weight .
(ii) All other medical criteria would be evaluated by the Air Force Medical Authorities whose decision
on the fitness would be final.

4. Ground Duty Branches - 201/17G/PC/M, 201/17G/SSC/M & W
(a) Age: 20 to 26 year as on 01 July 2017 i.e. Born between 02 July 1991 to 01 July 1997 (both
dates inclusive).

in graduation (both recognised by UGC / Competent Accreditation Authority).

(ii) All other medical criteria would be evaluated by the Air Force Medical Authorities whose decision on the fitness would be final.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
8. All applicants whose applications are submitted by due date will be called for Air Force Common
Admission Test (AFCAT) and Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT) (applicable only for candidates
applying for technical branch) to be conducted on 28 August 2016 (Sunday) at one of the examination
centres mentioned at para 16 (b). Candidates will be required to login to their candidate login accounts
regularly for information on AFCAT, EKT (if applicable) and AFSB testing. The AFCAT will be of two
hours duration and will contain multiple choice questions on verbal ability, numerical ability, reasoning,
general awareness and military aptitude. Sample question papers and syllabus of AFCAT/EKT is
available on IAF career website www.careerairforce.nic.in. EKT would be for 45 minutes and
conducted immediately after AFCAT.

9. Candidates who are short-listed on the basis of Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT/EKT)
will be called for further testing at one of the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs) at Dehradun, Mysore,Gandhinagar, Varanasi or Kancharapara. The testing would consist of three stages as given below.
(a) Stage-I Test consisting of Intelligence Test along with other tests will be conducted on the first
day. Stage-I test is a screening test and only those who qualify would undergo subsequent testing.
All Stage-I qualified candidates would be subjected to document check to ascertain their eligibility
for the branches applied for. Those candidates who either do not qualify in Stage-I testing or do not
meet the required eligibility criteria would be sent back on the first day itself.
(b) Stage-II testing consisting of Psychological test, Group Tests and Interview will be conducted
on subsequent days (Five Days).
(c) For Flying Branch: CPSS (Computerised Pilot Selection System) and / PABT would be
administered to eligible candidates.

10. Change of Interview Dates. Request for change of SSB interview date should be avoided.
However, as an exception, such change may be considered based on the circumstances of the case.
Request for such change should be forwarded to the respective AFSB from where the call letter for
SSB interview has been received and not to Air Headquarters / AFCAT Cell. The AFSBs may consider
change of date at their discretion. E-mail ID and telephone numbers of AFSB centres / contact details

11. Medical Examination will be conducted at AFCME, New Delhi or IAM Bengaluru based on the
recommendations at AFSB. Non reporting of candidates on allotted date for medicals could lead to
cancellation of candidature.

12. Candidates recommended by the AFSBs and declared medically fit will be detailed for training in
the order of all India Merit list depending on the number of vacancies available in various branches/
sub branches. Grant of PC / SSC in Technical and Ground Duty Branches would be based on number
of vacancies, performance in the selection process and the choice given by the candidates / Airmen.

13. No compensation will be paid in respect of any injury sustained during the testing at AFSB.

14. 10% of the vacancies are reserved for NCC Air Wing 'C' certificate holders in Technical and Ground Duty Branches.

15. Onus of meeting the eligibility criteria rests with the applicant. Merely undergoing AIR
FORCE COMMON ADMISSION TEST (AFCAT) / SSB testing would not constitute fulfilment of
eligibility requirements.
