(NIOT), Chennai in the SAG scale of Rs.37400 – 67000 + GP Rs.10,000/-, an Autonomous Body under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Govt. of India, established in 1993 registered under the Tamil Nadu Registration of Societies Act. The applications are invited for all the modes of recruitment i.e. i) deputation (including short-term contract)/absorption failing which ii) Direct Recruitment (on tenure) basis. The main aim and objectives of NIOT, Chennai are as under:
- To develop reliable indigenous technology to solve the various engineering problems associated with harvesting of non-living and living resources of oceans.
- To develop world class technologies and their applications for sustainable utilization of ocean resources.
- To develop a knowledge base and institutional capabilities in India for management of ocean resources and environment.
- To provide competitive, value added technical services and solutions to organizations working in the oceans.
Qualification and Experience
For deputation (including short-term contract)/absorption for a period of five(5) years failing which by Direct Recruitment (on tenure) basis for a period of five years.
Essential Qualification
- Master's degree in Physics or Chemistry or Geophysics or Geology or Oceanography or allied subject with at least first class (60%) at graduation as well as post graduation level or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology from a recognized University or equivalent.
- 21 years‟ (18 years with Ph.D) experience in research and development, survey, administration, planning, teaching (at graduate or post graduate level), supervision or training in the relevant field.
Desirable
- Ph. D in any branch of Science related in the relevant field or Master's degree in Engineering or from a recognized University.
- Experience in policy making, planning or management related to ocean and marine sciences/technology or management of projects in the relevant field.
Job Description:
The Director who is the Chief Executive Officer of the NIOT, is responsible for formulation, development and implementation of various technology mission mode programmes and other technical support activities implemented by NIOT. He is also responsible for formulation of planning, administration and functioning of the Centre as well as for the execution of the in-house R and D activities.
Scale of Pay:
The post of Director is in the SAG scale of Rs.37400 – 67000 + GP Rs.10,000/- and other allowances as per the rules of the Institute.
Age limit:
For Direct recruits preferably below 55 years. Relaxation can be considered in respect of exceptionally qualified or/ and experienced persons.
Method of Recruitment:
(i) For Deputation (including short-term contract)/absorption
Officers under Central Government or State Government or Union Territory Administration/including
their attached and subordinate offices or Universities or recognized research institutions or Public Sector Undertakings or Semi-Government or Statutory or Autonomous Organisations and other Non-government bodies.
- holding analogous posts on regular basis in the parent cadre or department or
- with 2 (two) years 'regular' service in posts in PB-4 Rs.37400-67000 with Grade Pay of Rs.8900/- in the parent cadre or department. or
- With 3 (three) years 'regular' service in posts in PB-4 Rs.37400-67000 with Grade Pay of Rs.8700/- in the parent cadre or department.
(ii) For Direct Recruitment:
Direct recruitment (on tenure basis ) for a period of five years or upto the age of superannuation
whichever is earlier subject to satisfactory performance.

General Conditions:
- The Ministry reserves the right to cancel the recruitment without assigning any reason.
- The prescribed essential qualifications are minimum and the mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview. If the number of applications received in response to advertisement is large, it shall not be convenient/ possible for the Search cum Selection Committee to interview all the candidates.
