IIRS Recruitment 2016 – Junior Research Fellow

Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), a unit of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), is a premier institute for capacity building and research in the field of remote sensing and geoinformatics. The Institute has a multi-disciplinary and problem oriented research agenda focusing on developing land-ocean-atmosphere applications and understanding Earth’s surface and subsurface processes using primarily the space-based technologies. The research programmes are intricately linked to overall goal of ISRO towards operationalization of space-based services for national development.

Young and motivated candidates are invited for the Walk-in interview for the post of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under the following research projects:

(1) Soil – Vegetation – Atmosphere Flux Monitoring (National Carbon Project).
No. of Post: 01 (one)
Essential Qualification: M.Sc. in Agriculture Physics / Agriculture Meteorology / Plant Physiology / Agronomy / Environmental Science / Ecology / Atmospheric sciences/ Physics OR M. Tech Remote Sensing and GIS with specialization in Agriculture/Ecology. The candidate shall be NET or equivalent*1 qualified in any year in relevant subject
Desirable Qualification: Knowledge of statistical/mathematical data processing and computer programming. Diploma in Remote Sensing and GIS applications.
Duration: The fellowship will be offered initially for a period of one year, which can be extended further till the duration of the project (likely up to 2018) depending on the performance of the candidate.

(2) Climate change impact on productivity of food grain and plantation crops.

Essential Qualification: M.Sc. in Agriculture Meteorology / Agriculture Physics / Agronomy/ Plant Physiology / Environmental Sciences OR B. Tech. (Agri./Agri. IT) with two years experience in RS and GIS/ M. Tech in Remote Sensing and GIS with specialization in Agriculture and environmental sciences. The candidate shall be NET or equivalent*1 qualified in any year in relevant subject.
Desirable Qualification: :Knowledge of crop simulation models, remote sensing and grided climate data processing is desirable. Knowledge and experience on LINUX or UNIX based OS and programming skill (C++, Python, IDL, MATLAB) is preferable.
Duration: The fellowship will be offered initially for a period of one year, which can be extended further till the duration of the project (likely up to March 2018) depending on the performance of the candidate.

(3)  Monitoring and Assessment of Ecosystem Processes and Services in North- Western Himalaya sub-theme – 4: Water Resource Status and Availability (2012-2017).

Essential Qualification: *M. Tech in Agriculture Engineering/Civil Engineering/Computer Sciences/Remote Sensing and GIS/Geomatics or equivalent.
OR
*M.Sc. in Hydrology/ Atmospheric Sciences/ Physics/ Mathematics/ Geography/ Geo-informatics or equivalent with at least two subjects from Hydrology/ Mathematics/Physics at graduate level. The candidate shall be NET or equivalent *1 qualified in any year in the relevant subject.
Desirable Qualification: Candidates with Post Graduate Degree or Diploma in Water Resources/ Remote Sensing / Geo-informatics with Hydrology as specialization from reputed University/Institute in India/abroad, work experience in retrieval, downscaling and assimilation of hydro-meteorological parameters from remote sensing in hydrological model, work experience with VIC, SWAT and other
hydrological models, snow and glacier melt runoff modeling and computer programming skills (C++, MATLAB, Python, MPI and IDL) with knowledge of Linux will be given preference.
Duration: The fellowship will be offered initially for a period of one year, which can be extended further till the duration of the project depending on the performance of the candidate.

(4)  Remote sensing, ground observations and integrated modeling based early warning system for climate extremes of North West Himalayan region”, (2014-2017)

Essential Qualification: M. Tech in Agriculture Engineering/Civil Engineering/Computer Sciences/Remote Sensing and GIS/Geomatics or equivalent OR M.Sc. in Hydrology/ Atmospheric Sciences/ Physics/Mathematics/Geography/ Geo-informatics or equivalent with at least two subjects from Hydrology/ Mathematics/ Physics at graduate level. The candidate shall be NET or equivalent*1
qualified in any year in the relevant subject.
Desirable Qualification: Candidates with Post Graduate Degree or Diploma in Water Resources/Remote Sensing / Geo-informatics with Hydrology as specialization from reputed University/Institute in India/abroad, work experience in numerical weather prediction, flood early warning and modeling, use of hydrological models and computer skills (C++, MATLAB, Python, MPI and IDL) with knowledge of Linux will be given preference.
Duration: The fellowship will be offered initially for a period of one year, which can be extended further till the duration of the project depending on the performance of the candidate.

(5) Thermal anomaly detection and monitoring of Coal Fire in the Gondwana Coalfields of India using Time-series Coarse Resolution Multispectral TIR Data and Impact Analysis (EOAM Project)

Essential Qualification: Master Degree in Geology or Geophysics/ Applied Geology or Applied Geophysics and related disciplines with working knowledge in Remote Sensing and GIS OR B.E. or B. Tech. in Mining Engg./ Geosciences/ Computer Science & Engg./ IT with M. Tech. in Remote Sensing and GIS / Geomatics. The candidate shall be NET or equivalent*1 qualified in any year in the relevant subject.
Desirable Qualification: Candidates with computer programming skills (Python, MATLAB, IDL etc.)
will be given preference.
Duration: The fellowship will be offered initially for a period of one year, which can be extended further till the duration of the project depending on the performance of the candidate.

(6) Development of frame work for processing ROVs Video data and validation of bathymetry from EO Sensor

Essential Qualification: M. Tech./ M. Sc. In Geoinformatics/ Remote Sensing/ Geomatics or equivalent with BE/Civil/ Electronics/ Electrical/ Computer Science or M. Sc. Physics/ Oceanography/ Marine Sciences. The candidate shall be NET or equivalent *1 qualified in any year in the relevant subject
Desirable Qualification: Candidates with computer programming skills (Python, MATLAB, IDL etc.)
will be given preference.
Duration: Knowledge of Remote Sensing, photogrammetry and Image processing and work experience with advanced image processing tools and computer programming skills (C, C ++, MATLAB, IDL, Python, etc. will be given preference.

Note*1:
  1. CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test including NET-Lectureship.
  2. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted by MHRD.
  3. Joint Admission Test (JAM) conducted by MHRD.
  4. Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) conducted by MHRD.
  5. Biotechnology Eligibility Test and Test conducted in Bio-informatics by Bio-informatics National Consortium.
  6. Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST), Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS) conducted by the Department of Atomic Energy.
  7. JRF Entrance Examination conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research.
  8. All India Competition Examination (AICE) conducted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
  9. NET or equivalent qualified in any period.

Age limit: The age limit is 30 years on the closing date of receipt of applications but relaxable for 5 years in case of SC/ST candidates and 3 years in case of OBC candidates.

Fellowship and Duration:JRFs will be paid an amount of Rs. 25,000/- (Rupees Twenty Five Thousand Only) per month as fellowship. D.A. is not admissible. However, they will be eligible for H.R.A. as per the rules of Government. For this purpose, the fellowship amount will be taken as Basic Pay. JRFs will be allowed to avail the CHSS (medical) facility for self only. DA, CCA, Bonus, LTC, retirement benefits, etc. are not admissible.

Selection process: On the date of walk-in interview, the qualification of the candidates will be verified with the certificates and supporting documents and with eligibility criteria viz. age and essential qualification. The walk-in interview of eligible candidates will be conducted by the selection committee and on the basis of qualification and interview performance, the candidate will be selected.

How to apply:
Candidates shall come for walk-in interview on the prescribed date with the duly filled application form along with original certificates in support of Qualification for verification. The application format is hosted on our website www.iirs.gov.in. There is NO need to send the duly-filled application form to IIRS by mail/post. Candidate need to bring duly filled application form at the time of walk-in interview only.

Other conditions/instructions:
  1. Only passed candidates are eligible to apply. Students awaiting for final result need not to apply.
  2. Education, Experience, Caste/Tribe, Identity certificate shall be produce at the time of interview otherwise the candidature of the candidate will be cancelled.
  3. Candidates belonging to OBC must submit a certificate specifically including the clause regarding exclusion from creamy layer which should be updated/valid at the time of interview.
  4. Mere fulfillment of the qualitative requirements of the posts will not entail a candidate to be selected.
  5. CGPA shall be converted into percentage of marks as per the candidate’s university norms.
  6. Those who are already in employment under the Central Government/State Government/Public Sector Undertaking/Autonomous Body or any organizations which is aided by the Government, shall produce “No Objection Certificate” from the employer at the time of interview otherwise the candidature of the candidate will be cancelled.
  7. Only Indian National needs to apply.
  8. No interim correspondence will be entertained. IIRS reserves the right not to fill the position, if it desires so. Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
  9. Candidates who fulfill minimum Education qualification, age criteria and appear for interview will be paid fare of Sleeper Class or its equivalent on producing the tickets.
  10. The interview venue is located about 05 kms. from Dehradun Railway Station and 10 kms. from ISBT, Dehradun. In order to reach venue, you may board Vikram (Blue colour passenger Tempo) up to Clock Tower then from Astley Hall to Hathibarkala Post Office in order to reach the venue.
